Rainbow Preschool
Rainbow Preschool is an ecumenical educational program provided to Trenton and the surrounding community. The program is designed to expand the social, educational, and physical development of children 3 to 5 years of age.
On a daily basis the program includes (but is not limited to): center time, reading, music, story activities, outside physical activities, and more. The program provides students with the opportunity to learn to write many things, including: their name, birthday, address, and telephone number, numbers zero to twenty and the alphabet. We also enjoy having fun with creative science experiments and spring planting. Additionally, we introduce money, measurement, and time concepts. Students are provided a daily snack, and also a Bible story is read weekly as part of the curriculum. In January, we introduce the Alphabet Basket project and homework. This helps prepare those going on to kindergarten the next year by developing responsibility with worksheets and weekly file folder games.
The centers are rotated throughout the year. Examples of center activities include: play dough, digging for dinosaurs in the activity table, puzzles, blocks, art table, painting, and many more activities. Some centers are rotated monthly to enhance the theme. One favorite monthly theme is Camping, complete with tents, campfire, bug catching, and snacks of s’mores, trail mix, and more! Another loved theme in the spring is Plants and New Beginnings. We plant individual gardens in pots growing several plants such as green beans, birdhouse gourds, and pumpkins.
Field trips are an integral part of the program. Trips include visiting the Police Station, Post Office, the park, library, and the Community Bank. Sometimes we will enjoy a nice walk around town to become more familiar with our community.
Classes are held on Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. If necessary due to enrollment numbers, an afternoon class will be arranged from 12:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Classes begin in late August and end in mid-May, closely following the Federal holiday schedule of the Wesclin School District. We hold a program during the final weeks. During this program the kids will sing their favorite songs and do other “special” activities for their parents, families, and friends as a celebration of our year together.
