LUKE KORTE RUN/WALK: An avid cross country runner and a member of the track team, Luke Korte’s life was cut short when, in December 2015, his junior year at Breese Central High School, he suffered serious injuries in a car accident that would later take his life. Luke is the son of Rich and Lisa (Richter) Korte of Breese. In remembering Luke, we are planning the 2nd Annual Run/Walk for Luke. The proceeds will benefit the Luke Korte Memorial Scholarship. The run/walk is scheduled to take place on September 23, 2017 at Southside Park in Breese. Registration forms can be accessed through www.facebook.com/runforluke or www.gaitwaytiming.com. You may also register the day of the race; however, to guarantee a t-shirt, registration forms are due by August 26th. Registration/packet pick-up will begin at 3:30 p.m. up until 15 minutes before the race. The 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk will begin at 5:00 p.m. The 5k Run/Walk will begin at 5:30 p.m.

STEPS FOR LIFE 10TH ANNUAL 2M WALK & 5K RUN: Saturday, September 30th at Highland Square. Registration begins at 7:00 AM with start of the 5K run at 8:00 AM and the 2M walk at 8:05 AM. Cost for 18 years and older is $25, 11-17 years $15, 10 years and under are free. All proceeds benefit the ministry of Relevant Pregnancy Options Center which provides options, support and education for those facing an unplanned pregnancy. MUSIKGARTEN: Fall session is open now for this research based program for early childhood music and movement education. Through singing songs, playing movement games, playing insturments, listening and learning, parent and child are exposed to a wonderful musical experience. “SHEEPDOG” CHURCH SAFETY SEMINAR: Saturday, September 16th at Bethalto Church of God, 800 East Bethalto Blvd., Bethalto, IL from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Early registration is $69.00 with a special offer for police officers to bring 1 other officer at no additional charge. This unique seminar addresses the issue of violence and what communities can do to stand in its way. It is geared toward church staff personnel, teachers, principals, police, first responders, church leaders and anyone concerned about the rapid increase of violence in our communities. CONCERT: Friday, September 29th at St. Paul’s UCC, 7 N. Belleville Street, Freeburg IL starting at 6:30 PM by Matthew Smith & Indelible Grace. tickets are $12 at the door or $10 purchased in advance. As a bonus, when four tickets are purchased in advance, a fifth ticket is free which is great for families or groups. The concert is billed as “not just an evening of entertainment. • Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 7:30 PM – Five and Change annual pops concert at Highland Elementary Auditorium
Season tickets are available at http://www.highlandcommunitychorus.org. Individual tickets for each concert are $15, with children under 15 free. Season tickets cost $30 for three concerts. Sponsorships and contributions are welcome at any time.

WALK FOR REMEMBRANCE AND HOPE: The HSHS St. Joseph-Breese Auxiliary and Share group will host a Walk for Remembrance and Hope on Saturday, October 7 at Germantown’s Schoendienst Park. Parents who have lost a child can include their baby’s name(s) on T-shirts to be distributed and in the program and balloon launch but information is due tomorrow, September 1st. The walk’s purpose is to raise awareness and remember those touched by the death of a baby and to raise funds for an Angel of Hope statue for the hospital campus. GOOD SAMARITAN HOUSE: Annual fundraising dinner and silent auction on Saturday, November 5th at Township Hall, 2060 Delmar, Granite city, IL. Doors open at 6:00 PM with dinner at 7:00 PM. Entertainment will be the Granite City Swing Band. Tickets are $25 each or a table of 8 for $200. GSH is the largest women and children’s shelter in the St. Louis Metro-East region with a mission to help women of Madison and St. Clair counties find employment, safe affordable housing and new life skills. Fall Health Fairs are upon us!

Don’t forget — in order to be preregistered for the Wed, Sept 13 Breese Fair scheduled for 6-10am at the KC Hall, your completed and signed registration form must be received at the hospital tomorrow, Wed, Sept 6. If that isn’t possible, don’t worry — walk-ins are welcome! Just don’t forget the 10-hour fast necessary if you want the Comprehensive Blood Screening.
Additional Fairs will be held from 6-10am the following Wednesdays:

· 10/11 at Trenton First United Methodist Church on Old 50

Carseat/Booster Safety Check

Carseats can go a long way in keeping children safe — if the right seat is installed the right way! Protect your kiddos! Get your child safety seat checked out on Saturday, Sept 23, between 9am and 1pm at St. Joseph’s Breese. Carseat technicians will be on hand in the East Colleague Parking Lot off Holy Cross Ln (pass the Main Lot entrances). If possible, bring manuals for both your carseat and your vehicle. LGBTQ SUPPORT GROUP: Starting September 19th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, 3324 Old US Highway 50, Trenton, IL. This group will continue to meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month and is for individuals to talk in an open and supportive environment about issues impacting their lives and the LGBTQ and Allied community. STRENGTHEN FAMILIES & COMMUNITIES: Saturday, September 23 from 1-3 PM at Trenton Park. Join the voices for recovery as speakers recovering from drug addiction answer your questions that you may be afraid to ask. There will be practical and educational information from first responders, pharmacists and recovering addicts, their families and employers. Thanks to 7 West for providing free BBQ and refreshments! September is National Recovery Month because when prevention works and treatment is effective then people recover.

CHICKEN DINNER: Sunday, September 24 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at St. Teresa Church, 18021 Marydale Road, Carlyle, IL 62231. Featuring fried chicken, dressing and desserts with carryouts available. Prices are $11.00 for adults and $5.00 for children. There will also be a quilt raffle.

CONCERT SERIES: St. Paul UCC in Waterloo will be having a fine arts concert series with these performers: October 1 – Vocal Edge, St. Louis A Cappella; December 17 – St. Paul Orchestra; January 21 – Mark Parker & Shannon O’Heron; March 18 – Collinsville Chorale with special guest Heather Sorenson; May 20 – Gary Humphrey & Friends. All performances are on Sunday at 2:00 PM and are free of charge.

WURSTMARKT: Saturday, October 7 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Friedens UCC, 820 North Main Street, Marissa, IL 62257. RACHAEL SANSOUCIE BENEFIT: Saturday, October 14th from 3:00 to 11:30 PM at Cutters in Belleville, IL. $15 admission includes dinner, salad, desserts, soda, coffee and tea from 5-7 PM. Silent auction from 6-9 PM. Music by Boulderdash and special guest violinist Abbie Steiling. Rachel is 18 years old and in need of a second liver transplant. MASTERWORKS CONCERT: “Celtic Voices” will be performed on October 15th at 3 pm at St Clare Catholic Church in Shiloh. Among the songs are “Loch Lomond,” “The Parting Glass”, “Greensleeves”, “Londonderry Air” (the tune of Danny Boy) and many others. Ticket prices are: Adults – $20, Seniors (65+) /Military – $15, Students/Children – $10.
